NECC Committees Announced

NECC members in Middlesbrough and Hartlepool are invited to attend the next committee meetings, taking place in March, to have the opportunity to hear from two influential speakers from the area.

Middlesbrough Committee
Location: Centre For Enterprise, Middlesbrough
Times: 8.30 – 10.00am
Date: 16.03.12

Members will have the chance to meet with Sir Stuart Bell MP. Stuart has been Labour MP for Middlesbrough since 1983 and is a barrister by trade. He was a longstanding Labour Party spokesman on Northern Ireland and instrumental in the drafting and passage of The Children's Act. He has also written a number of books and was appointed Shadow Minister for Trade and Corporate Affairs under John Smith's leadership of the Labour Party. He has also held the position of Church Commissioner.

Sir Stuart will give an overview of his work and the current political situation and has agreed to take part in a question and answer session with members.

Hartlepool Committee
Location: Smith & Graham Solicitors, Hartlepool
Times: 4.00 – 5.00pm
Date: 14.03.12

The Hartlepool Committee will receive elected Mayor Stuart Drummond as a guest speaker in March. He was originally put up for election as Mayor of Hartlepool by the Football club where he was mascot but unexpectedly won the election and has now served three terms as Mayor. Most recently he has communicated with all businesses in the town to try to raise employment rates for the residents of Hartlepool – especially young people and has sought to position the Council as business friendly. He is also campaigning strongly to bring wind turbine manufacturer Gamesa to the town.

Mr Drummond will provide a short address to the committee and then take questions.
