Tesco plc

Founded in Britain nearly a century ago Tesco has a well-established and consistent strategy for growth, which has led the group to become one of the world's leading retailers.

Since the 90's, Tesco has been investing in new markets overseas and today over half of their selling space is made outside the UK. The Group operates in 13 countries across Europe, Asia and North America, even India since 2008.

Working with NECC

Tesco has worked closely with NECC to support the Buy North East Campaign by providing opportunities for the region's small suppliers to enter products into wider commercial markets. As part of this partnership Tesco hosted a Meet the Buyer event towards the end of 2009 at NECC's head office in Durham which has since initiated the introduction of new regional products across stores in the North East. In addition to supporting the Buy North East Campaign, Tesco has also provided its support towards NECC's Generating Growth Energy Policy Event .

Testimonial

"Tesco's relationship with NECC has been highly beneficial in a number of ways, not least in helping us identify businesses in the North East with which we might develop partnerships. This was perfectly demonstrated by a Meet the Buyers event, organised by NECC and Tesco late last year. We were able to meet a number of outstanding local food suppliers and, as a result, we now have some of their products in our North East stores." Douglas Wilson, Corporate Affairs Manager
