Chamber Comment on A1 Dualling Delay
Date published:
John McCabe, Chamber Chief Executive, said:
Northumberland is a destination in its own right, as well as playing a critical role helping people and businesses in England and Scotland connect and collaborate, so it is disappointing to learn the decision to dual the A1 has been pushed back.
The Chamber’s support for the dualling of the 23 mile stretch of the A1 between Morpeth and Ellingham has been long-standing because of the important role it plays in uniting the UK and keeping people, goods and trade moving between the North and South.
The delay to the Development Consent Order must not signal a lack of commitment to the North East and the huge potential our region has in contributing to the whole of the UK. We will continue to provide support for people, place and business, including transport and infrastructure investment, now and for the future.
We are prepared to support the government in any way necessary and will continue to make the case for solutions which deliver an open and inclusive North East.
