Chamber member WANDER has launched its latest project, a groundbreaking documentary commissioned by the BBC.
The Lakes: Our Life on the Edge is a 30-minute film which highlights the story of climbers Anna and Mat, following their ambitious 100-mile challenge across the Lake District.
The documentary, which is now live on BBC iPlayer, was filmed by the WANDER team using high-resolution drones and ambitious 360-degree cameras. The film is part of the BBC’s Our Lives series which celebrates life within the UK in all its diversity.
Chloë Clover is the CEO and co-founder of content agency and production company WANDER. She was listed in Forbes 30 Under 30 and was named Entrepreneur of the Year 2024 in the Chamber’s Business Awards.
Chloë said: “Filming this documentary was a wild adventure for our crew, as well as Anna and Mat! We loved every second of it… even when we were carrying the camera kit up mountains in the rain!
“The Lake District is a special place to us, so to be able to tell this story in such a beautiful region was just incredible.
“Anna and Mat’s endurance, along with their love for each other and the life they live, is super inspiring and I can’t wait for people to see it!”
The documentary uncovers both the physical and emotional challenges that come with climbing some of the UK’s most dangerous peaks, without any ropes or protective equipment.
Viewers are given a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the highs and lows of the sport, as newly engaged Anna and Mat face the biggest challenge of their climbing careers.
WANDER’s co-founder and COO Lou Tonner said: “This documentary represents everything WANDER is about! We love the lakes and we love climbing, so to have the opportunity to film Anna and Mat taking on such a huge and scary challenge is literally a dream come true.”
BBC England TV commissioner Diana Hare said: “Our Lives is a rare jewel. A series of single documentaries that all celebrate and reflect the amazing stories of people and communities across the UK.
“Over the years it has been a wonderful opportunity for smaller production companies and first-time directors and this year is no exception. I am excited by the developing talent we are working with.”
The WANDER team took extra steps to reduce their environmental impact during filming in the Lake District, including using rechargeable batteries and low-energy LED lights, lowering food waste and using local suppliers.
WANDER’s film The Lakes: Our Life on the Edge is now live on BBC iPlayer and will air on BBC One in November. You can watch the episode here.
