Member Spotlight: James’ Place
Date published:
This week we caught up with the team at the men’s mental health charity to find out how they’re going further with Chamber membership.
Where are you based?
We are based in Newcastle Upon Tyne.
How many employees do you have?
We have 11 people in our team!
Give us a brief overview of your business.
James’ Place was founded by Clare Milford Haven and Nick Wentworth-Stanley following the tragic death of their son James. Aged just 21, James took his own life ten days after a minor operation. He sought help for his anxiety and suicidal thoughts but didn’t find the urgent help he so desperately needed. Clare and Nick were determined to prevent other families from losing the men they love and set up the charity to help men in suicidal crisis.
75% of all deaths by suicide are men. We are a charity offering free, life-saving treatment to suicidal men at our centres in Newcastle, Liverpool and London.
We stop men dying by suicide. Our professional therapists get quickly to the heart of a man’s suicidal crisis and help him solve it.
We are unique because our treatment is proven to work, quick to access and delivered in a safe, friendly, non-clinical environment by trained, professional therapists.
Tell us about a recent business success.
Our Newcastle centre was formally opened by HRH Prince of Wales in April 2024.
Since opening a year ago, the centre has supported almost 425 men living across the North East of England, saving many lives.
Our team of professional therapists are here to help men in the North East, which has one of the highest suicide rates in England. Men can self-refer or be referred by a health professional.
How has being a Chamber member impacted your growth and networking opportunities?
Joining the Chamber is an important step for us as we embed ourselves into the North East community and connect with like-minded professionals who share our commitment to making a difference.
We’re really looking forward to attending the Chamber’s fantastic networking events, which will give us the opportunity to meet local businesses, build meaningful relationships, and raise awareness about the work we do.
