North east businesses crying out for stability

John McCabe, Chief Executive, North East England Chamber of Commerce:
“In the face of economic headwinds and political chaos North East businesses are crying out for stability.
“The latest data from our Quarterly Economic Survey has shown business confidence in shaky territory – with urgent concerns around inflation and energy costs at the forefront of minds.
“The current Prime Minister and Chancellor are due to outline a medium-term fiscal plan later this month. It’s crucial that this is backed up by robust evidence and maintains a commitment to the things our members tell us matter most – Levelling Up, greater devolution for the north of the region, and investment in skills and our vital public services. The government urgently needs to restore confidence amongst the business community if our region is to thrive and prosper.”
