John McCabe, chief executive, North East Chamber of Commerce, said: “Labour has promised to extend the hand of partnership to business, putting sustainable growth at the heart of its new strategy. This will resonate with our members who are clear that stability and certainty are needed to deliver both regional investment and national prosperity.

“A modern industrial strategy, unlocking the planning system and delivering energy resilience via Great British Energy are policy initiatives our members will have further insight on. Details on the practical delivery of these plans, alongside the role of the new technical excellence colleges in providing the skilled workforce to meet demand will be welcome.

“Businesses, charities and public sector employers across the North East are clear that our number one priority is good work for secure futures. This will be central to delivering an economy that works for the whole country – but crucially delivers for our members here in the North East. Our successful engagement with both major political parties over conference season is the start of that conversation – and one we look forward to continuing in the coming months.”
