“In the last few days we have once again seen the very best of the North East, with kind, tolerant and welcoming people and businesses going out of their way to support one another. Our strong and resilient community provides the purpose for all that we do as a representative body.
“We also pay tribute to the public services and community leaders who play such a vital role in the most difficult of circumstances.
“This generous solidarity epitomises the true North East and our region will be all the stronger and fairer for it.”
