Chamber response to Union Electric Steel UK consultation announcement

A spokesperson from the Chamber said:
“Today’s announcement is deeply concerning and our thoughts are with the workforce and their families at this uncertain time. We welcome the speed with which a skills task force has been established by the mayor and Gateshead College and will do whatever we can to support its important and urgent work.
“Manufacturers continue to face pressures from increasing costs of doing business and barriers to international trade. The Chamber will continue to lobby the government on these issues which must be resolved in order to stimulate sustainable growth in our economy.”
