John McCabe, chief executive at the North East Chamber of Commerce, said:

“The North East Chamber of Commerce welcomes the North East Combined Authority’s £28.6m Child Poverty Reduction Action Plan. It is a vital commitment to tackling one of our region’s most pressing challenges.

“Reducing child poverty is not just the right thing to do, it is essential to the long-term success of our economy and the wellbeing of our communities. The plan approved today by the NECA Cabinet will mean funded action to tackle this issue through to 2029.

“The Chamber and our members stand ready to support this important work, recognising that investing in the futures of all young people in our region will help unlock the North East economy’s potential.”
