We have delivered successful project management training for Barbour. Barbour sought to enhance internal project capability across its operational, commercial, and supply chain functions. While formal project managers were in place, many department leads and key staff were managing projects informally without access to structured training or tools. North Star Projects was engaged to design and deliver a tailored training programme focused on Project Management Essentials for Non-Project Managers, aligning with real-world responsibilities and internal project complexity.
The training objectives were simple:
• Equip Barbour’s staff with a foundational understanding of project management principles
• Increase internal confidence in defining, planning, and delivering structured initiatives
• Encourage consistent use of project frameworks and language across teams
• Support the development of a scalable, shared capability in project delivery
Drawing on North Star’s proven project management training framework, the course was built around four core modules in which each session was structured with a blend of short-form content delivery, group exercises, real-life case analysis, and simulation-based learning. We included a variety of key engagement methods such as interactive workshops, peer feedback sessions, tool familiarisation and practical wrap-up exercises. As a result, the staff were equipped with practical tools and templates that could be directly applied in their day-to-day work. Participants reported increased confidence in creating structured project plans, managing timelines, and handling cross-team communication. We added real value in what we delivered as Barbour gained internal consistency in the way projects were initiated, documented, and reviewed. Ultimately, a repeatable training format was established that can be used for onboarding new leaders or upskilling cross-functional teams. Our training delivery for Barbour focused not just on theory but on real-world, team-based project execution – enabling long-term capability building and a common approach to managing change.
How has being a Chamber member impacted your growth and networking opportunities?
Although we’re still relatively new members, joining the Chamber has already opened the door to exciting opportunities. Being part of such a vibrant and diverse business community has allowed us to connect with like-minded organisations, expand our visibility across the North East, and start building relationships that we hope will grow into long-term collaborations. We’re genuinely looking forward to getting more involved – attending upcoming events, learning from fellow members, and offering our expertise to support others in the network. It’s energising to be part of a community that shares our commitment to doing great work and helping each other succeed.
