The Chamber has submitted a response to the government’s comprehensive spending review consultation, calling for targeted investment and policy changes to unlock economic growth across the region.

Economic survey results released today (14 January) by the North East Chamber of Commerce show a more encouraging outlook for businesses across the region, with cost pressures easing and domestic demand strengthening.

The North East Chamber of Commerce welcomed Nat Benjamin, executive director for financial stability strategy and risk at the Bank of England, to Newcastle last week for a member briefing hosted by Womble Bond Dickinson. Nat outlined how financial stability underpins the conditions in which businesses can invest, innovate and grow, and reflected on the Bank’s recent work to reduce barriers in the financial system that may be holding back productivity and long-term investment.

Businesses are realising that productivity isn’t just about systems and processes but that it starts with people. When employees feel supported, valued and able to bring their best selves to work, productivity naturally follows. That’s why wellbeing is becoming a central part of how successful organisations operate.
