North East Chamber of Commerce response to latest transport investment announcements
Date published:
In response to the North East Mayor’s latest transport announcements, including £53.6m of investment in transport improvements and the rollout of additional electric buses across the region, John McCabe, chief executive of the North East Chamber of Commerce, said:
“Reliable and well-connected transport networks are essential to the North East economy. Investment in our roads, public transport infrastructure and cleaner bus fleets is therefore welcome, particularly where it helps improve everyday journeys for people travelling to work and businesses moving goods and services across the region.
“Funding to improve key transport assets and bring forward future schemes has the potential to strengthen connectivity between our towns, cities and employment sites. As we know, for businesses, better transport links mean access to a wider workforce, more efficient supply chains and greater confidence to invest.
“Moves to expand the region’s electric bus network are also an important step towards cleaner and more modern public transport, supporting both economic growth and the North East’s wider net zero ambitions.”
