North East Chamber of Commerce revalidated as an advanced-level SHINE employer
Date published:
The Chamber has once again been recognised as an Advanced-level SHINE employer, the highest standard in the region’s good work framework, delivered by the North East Combined Authority.
SHINE, formerly known as the Good Work Pledge, celebrates organisations that champion fairness, inclusivity and responsibility in the workplace. At its heart are five beams of good practice, covering employee wellbeing, community impact, employee voice, opportunity for all, and fair work and pay.
The Chamber’s revalidation recognises a workplace culture where people feel heard, supported and able to thrive, and where values are embedded in everyday practice.
Grace Cuthbertson, HR officer at the North East Chamber of Commerce, said, “We’re incredibly proud to have been revalidated at the highest level of the SHINE framework. This award is not only a reflection of everything our people do to make the Chamber a great place to work, but also our shared commitment to promoting a North East that’s inclusive, fair and future-focused.
“SHINE gives us a structure to keep learning and improving, while also celebrating what we’re already doing well. We’re excited to use this revalidation as a platform, not just to share our story, but to encourage and support other employers to begin their own Shine journey too.”
Phil Witcherley, director for economic growth and inward investment at the Combined Authority, said, “SHINE is an important new part of the offer the North East Combined Authority makes to business, alongside our Growth Hub and the support we provide to help companies invest and relocate.
“We are delighted to see the North East Chamber of Commerce among the first employers to gain Advanced status in SHINE, and so helping set a standard for organisations across the region.”
Why SHINE Matters?
At a time when attracting and retaining talent is more competitive than ever, SHINE offers employers a practical, people-focused framework to strengthen workplace culture, drive better outcomes and support a stronger regional economy.
The Chamber is encouraging businesses of all sizes across the North East to consider applying.

Phil added, “We are holding SHINE Roadshows at locations up and down the North East where people can find out more about SHINE and the benefits it brings through a programme of networking, best practice sharing and networking, as well as demonstrating how good employment can drive higher engagement and higher productivity.”
