Charity shopping star returning to Teesside for special Second Hand September masterclass
A charity shop influencer and BBC star is set to host a special second-hand shopping masterclass and meet and greet this September, in aid of local hospice care.
Jen Graham, also known as Charity Shop Girl, will be making a special appearance at Teesside Hospice’s Second Hand September Fashion Show on Saturday September 26th at the hospice’s Portrack Lane Superstore.
As well as Jen’s meet and greet, live talk and charity shopping masterclass, the event will feature a one-off fashion show with pieces created by students at Middlesbrough’s Northern College of Art.
Talented students from the college will reimagine pieces donated to Teesside Hospice’s shops by our local community, styling them into trendy, wearable outfits with a strong focus on denim through the eras.
Jen previously visited the hospice’s Superstore in April, when she joined staff and supporters to officially open the pre-loved fashion, furniture and homeware shop. Speaking about her return and upcoming masterclass, she said:
"I’m so excited to be heading back to Teesside to work with Teesside Hospice. It’s an amazing local charity that does such important work supporting people and families living with life limiting illness.
“I love that their charity shops not only give you the chance to have a good rummage and find some amazing second-hand treasures but that every purchase helps fund vital care and support for local people.
“I can’t wait to get back to Teesside to see the team again and get rummaging."
For £20, attendees at the event will get to enjoy the fashion show and shop one-of-a-kind pieces from the runway, as well as meet Jen and listen to her top tips for successful charity shopping. The hospice is also offering specially discounted student tickets at £5 each.
All money raised at the event will go directly towards the running of Teesside Hospice’s services, providing end of life care and bereavement support to thousands of patients and families across the Tees Valley.
Natalie Futo-Wallace, Teesside Hospice Events Fundraiser and organiser of the Second Hand September Fashion Show, said: “We’re really looking forward to welcoming Jen back to Teesside and our Superstore, and hearing her top tips on how we can all shop more sustainably.
“We’re also so excited to be teaming up with the Northern College of Art students again. They’re such a creative group and the pieces they created last year were amazing, so I can’t wait to see what they come up with for our shoppers this time around.
“Second Hand September in itself is a great initiative, but knowing that any support then means our team at Teesside Hospice can provide end of life care to more people across the region is an added bonus.”
