From 13 holiday homes to 130: the award-winning growth of North East Escapes

In just over two years, North East Escapes has grown from 13 holiday homes to more than 130 across Northumberland and the wider North East. That growth was recognised this summer when the business was named Start Up and Grow Business of the Year at the North East Chamber of Commerce Awards.

Founded by Steve Mitchinson in June 2024, the locally owned and locally managed holiday home management company now has a core team of eight, operating from its Alnwick headquarters with a sales and marketing base in Tynemouth. Its growth has had a ripple effect across the region, supporting dozens of local housekeepers, contractors, tradespeople and suppliers.

“It’s been an incredible couple of years. We set out to build the best business we could, not the biggest, and the growth has followed from looking after our owners, our guests and our team properly. Being recognised by the Chamber was a proud moment for all of us, and we’re genuinely excited about what 2027 holds,” said Steve.

That momentum is carrying into next year. The business has begun expanding into Teesdale and is introducing Touch Stay digital guides to help guests discover the best of the region during their stay.
