This week we caught up with Kellas Midstream to find out how they’re going further with Chamber membership.

Give us a brief overview of your business.
We are an energy infrastructure company. Gas transportation and processing is at the heart of what we do. We own, manage, and operate large-scale critical energy assets in the Central and Southern North Sea. One of these is the CATS (Central Area Transmission System) terminal at Seal Sands on Teesside which transports and processes over a quarter of all UK gas production.
To support the UK’s 2050 net zero targets, we are currently developing H2NorthEast next to the CATS terminal. This is a ground-breaking initiative to build a 1GW low carbon hydrogen production facility that will play a vital role in industry decarbonisation on Teesside, creating jobs and skills development opportunities in the region.
Tell us about a recent business success.
Our H2NorthEast hydrogen development on Teesside was recently selected by the government as one of only four low carbon hydrogen projects to progress to the next stage of the BEIS (Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy) Phase-2 cluster sequencing process. This is very exciting news as it brings us a crucial step closer to H2NorthEast becoming a reality and delivering 355MW of low carbon hydrogen to the region by 2027, with the objective to scale up to over 1GW by 2030.
We have also recently partnered with Teesside University to fund clean energy scholarships that will support the area’s emerging engineering talent into the clean energy sector.
Why are you a Chamber Member?
We recognize the value the Chamber can offer us in terms of making new connections with other local businesses, and building relationships with supply chain and other key stakeholders across the North East.
