Member Spotlight: My Sister’s Place
Date published:
This week we caught up with the team at the specialist charity to find out how they’re going further with Chamber membership.
Where are you based?
We are based in Middlesbrough!
How many employees do you have?
We have 39 people in our team!
Give us a brief overview of your business.
My Sister’s Place is a specialist trauma informed Violence Against Women and Girls service (VAWG) service with over 22 years of experience based in Middlesbrough.
We provide holistic, therapeutic, practical support to victims through their journey out of abuse and support survivors to make life-changing decisions around personal safety, housing, finances, criminal and civil justice, fighting to keep children, immigration justice and threats of deportation.
We also give mental health support for the psychological recovery from the impacts of interpersonal trauma and abuse.
Tell us about a recent business success.
In the last year we received 5206 referrals and supported 4,588 survivors with an additional 1531 children reached through our children and young people service.
This is the highest we have ever experienced in our 22-year history. Numbers are increasing, cases are complex, and more resources are needed but our amazing team continue to work incredibly hard to meet this demand.
How has being a Chamber member impacted your growth and networking opportunities?
We are new members to the Chamber but have already received lots of information through the business brief and many opportunities to attend events. Networking is something that our charity needs to do more of and the Chamber events have offered the ideal opportunity to do this.
The Chamber has also supported our charity by selecting us as one of their charities to donate to via a member survey which we greatly appreciate and we are excited to see how being part of the network can support our work going forward.
