Give us a brief overview of your business.
Established in Darlington in 1946, Turner & Townsend is an independent professional services company specialising in program management, project management and cost and commercial management across the real estate, infrastructure and natural resources sectors.
The company has 160 staff based across its North East offices in Newcastle and Stockton and operates globally, with 112 offices in 46 countries.
What has been your top tip for keeping business going during Covid-19?
It has been to keep the business safe, with the key priority being the well-being of our staff and client teams.
Prior to the pandemic, we had invested heavily to ensure our systems, processes, procedures and IT infrastructure were robust and this certainly paid dividends during the pandemic.
In conjunction with this, we kept close to our clients to ensure that we were available and visible, whilst understanding their pressure points and providing additional support.
Clear and open lines of communication with employees and clients was critical and we worked extremely hard to ensure this was in place at all times.
Tell us about a recent business success.
It has to be the continued growth of the team. Since November 2020, we have introduced approximately 40 people into the North East division. We are bigger and stronger and there is a fantastic skillset amongst the team.
We are focused on people development, providing our people with career opportunities and investing in training, so that we attract and retain the very best staff.
There are many reasons why we are seeing growth but primarily it is because we have great people. We know that they are skilled and highly committed individuals and they have the right tools, resources and data to deliver top quality work.
Why are you a Chamber Member?
We were established within the region (Darlington) 75 years ago and it is important that we continue to connect with the the North East business community, to share, collaborate, celebrate success and really fly the flag for the region. We are very proud to play our part by being a Chamber member, it enables us to learn about regional developments and we value the networking and professional development opportunities that the Chamber presents.
