‘Recruitment’ and ‘crime’ are but 2 of the terms which frequently appear high on the list of concerns in the Chamber’s Quarterly Economic Survey, but perhaps infrequently appear in the same sentence together. Companies across the region are increasingly looking to recruitment and retention in increasingly diverse ways.

A stable home and job prospects are crucial to integrating offenders back into their communities and a stable crime-free future. All the evidence shows this - it’s indisputable.

During this event, we will have a contextual element from North East Prison Group’s Employment Advisory Group, before we delve into some of the detail as to how we can break some of the myths, and how we collectively encourage and facilitate change across recruitment and retention.

Members might expect the following outputs, to help generate improved workplace outcomes.

  • Insights into some of the issues and challenges faced, from both sides.
  • Open Q&A to facilitate an understanding about how business can manage risk and provide opportunity.
  • Where to access support, guidance and information to break the cycle and connect business and people.
  • Having an increased understanding of what ‘inclusive employment’ is, with practical examples and how to implement change, why it is important to you, your business and the economy.
  • Provide a forum for businesses who are seeking to engage in positive change through recruitment practises, but don’t necessarily understand how or where to go for support.
  • Understand how rehabilitation occurs in a custodial/community setting and how ex-offenders can support your organisation, with detailed discourse on how you can be supported, for you to implement change effectively.

What do I wear to a Chamber event: We don’t have a dress code, but we suggest dressing as if meeting new clients. Your comfort is key.

Behaviour and conduct: our events create an inclusive space for individuals and organisations to meet, where we expect all our attendees to behave with courtesy and respect, to both each other and Chamber colleagues.
