Case Study: Supporting the business case for Moor Farm improvements in Parliament
Background
The Moor Farm roundabout in Annitsford is a key junction linking the A19, A1 and A18. This strategic six-armed roundabout serves as a vital gateway to south east Northumberland, connecting communities, businesses, the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital and the emerging Northumberland Energy Park at Cambois.
Chronic congestion at peak times has become a major barrier to growth for employers in the area, increasing costs, affecting delivery times and making it harder to attract and retain staff. Upgrading the roundabout would unlock investment, improve connectivity and support the long-term success of the region’s economy.
Emma Foody MP, who represents Cramlington and Killingworth, has made the case for improvements at Moor Farm a key priority, continuing her campaign in Parliament.
Action
Ahead of a Westminster Hall debate on 17 June 2025, the Chamber was asked by Emma Foody MP’s office to provide evidence of how congestion at Moor Farm is impacting local businesses.
Our team quickly engaged with affected members and gathered clear, real-world examples of the challenges they face. Businesses shared how the outdated infrastructure delays deliveries, increases emissions and deters staff. This evidence was shared with the MP’s office ahead of the debate to strengthen the case for investment.
Result
During the debate, Emma Foody MP highlighted the voices of North East businesses in Parliament, quoting several Chamber members to illustrate the urgent need for action. Examples included manufacturers, logistics firms, and exporters whose growth is being held back by the current infrastructure.
Raising these concerns in Parliament helps maintain pressure on decision-makers to prioritise and fund the necessary improvements at Moor Farm.
